@GPlannersInc, @meganbuzzetta,

Do you have a business tip or tool that has helped you in your business to share?
Don’t go it alone!  Recognize and maximize your strengths and embrace your weaknesses.  Running a successful business takes a team of talent.  Having the right talent in the right place minimizes some of the bumps along the way.  Embrace the bumps, it’s part of the process and prepares you for what’s next.  Don’t take yourself too seriously, it’s ok to have fun on the journey.

Do you have a quote to share and inspire other members?
We can all be a little hard on ourselves.  This quote has helped me keep things in perspective throughout the years:
“Perfectionism is self-abuse of the highest order.”  Anne Wilson Schaef

Do you have a go to business, mindset or productivity book that has helped you in your life and business to share?
My go to tool has always been my mentors.  Having like-minded people in your corner willing to share their experiences really pulls you forward when you need it most.  That and lots of praying!
Please tell us about your next upcoming business event so that we can share it with our members and followers:

NAWBO South Jersey Announces New Executive Director

The Board of Directors of the National Association of Women Business Owners of South Jersey is pleased to announce that Fran Davis from Marlton, NJ has been named its first part-time Executive Director. Ms. Davis will lead the South Jersey chapter in its effort to propel New Jersey to be a leading state for women-owned businesses.

The appointment was inspired by the organization’s growing influence within the South Jersey business community and by the rise in woman-owned businesses in the state.

In New Jersey, a report released by American Express OPEN estimates the number of women-owned businesses grew 48 percent between 1997 and 2014. The state’s 230,000 women-owned businesses employ nearly 260,000 people and contribute $45 billion to the economy, according to American Express’s analysis of Census data.

Board President Katie Walsh said, “The NAWBO SJ Board is very excited to offer the role of Executive Director to Fran Davis. She is a talented woman with a deep passion for women-owned businesses. The board of directors looks forward to working with her to take NAWBO South Jersey to higher levels of impact and influence.”

Fran Davis comes uniquely qualified for the position. She is the owner of a personal chef service in the South Jersey region which she started in 2010. She has been a NAWBO member since 2010 as well, serving on the South Jersey board as Membership chair, Marketing chair and President of the organization. She has worked diligently to build and improve the NAWBO brand in South Jersey and has a passion for assisting other women business owners and strengthening the business community.

Ms. Davis received her B.A. in Psychology at Boston University, graduating Phi Beta Kappa, and received her M.S. in Social Psychology from the University of Connecticut. During her 15 years in the corporate Information Technology sector, she designed and maintained technology portals for mid-sized companies helping to improve the flow of information and streamline processes within the organizations. She transitioned from corporate employee to business owner in 2010 to allow her to fulfill her dream of working for herself and to have a more flexible schedule during her daughter’s early development years.

Over the past few years she has strived to connect the members of NAWBO to their local representatives and to build partnerships with other networking, non-profit, government and educational institutions. The NAWBO Board is pleased that through her role as Executive Director she will continue to assist with the strategic growth of the organization.

NAWBO of South Jersey Announces the Next President, Katie Walsh

NAWBO of South Jersey is pleased to announce their next President, Katie Walsh, Owner of 3 Rita’s Water Ice franchises each located in Gloucester County, NJ. Walsh has been a member of the organization since 2014 and during this time has served on the Board as Secretary. Having demonstrated her commitment, passion and dedication to NAWBO SJ, Walsh is a natural fit to step into the role of President.

Nine years ago, Katie started “scooping” ice as a server at her local Rita’s. She quickly climbed the ranks into management. While a full time student, pursuing a Marketing degree from Rutgers University Camden School of Business, Katie stayed with Rita’s as a fulltime General Manager/Marketing Manager. In 2012, Katie graduated Summa Cum Laude from Rutgers University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing.

In 2014, Katie purchased the Rita’s Ice locations of Mantua, Woodbury, & Glassboro, NJ where she remains responsible for all business decisions. In addition to managing her three locations, Katie works as a Small Business Consultant, specializing in operations, marketing, and team building.

“As business owners we all face challenges,” said Walsh. “However, as women business owners we often face challenges that our male counterparts may not such as gender discrimination, the pressures of managing work and family, appropriately valuing our worth in the marketplace, and learning how to be effective leaders while walking the line between being perceived as too aggressive or too nice. The National Association of Women Business Owners is an organization that provides a supportive environment just for women to share the challenges we face and receive the advice and wisdom of those who have gone before us.”

“I believe Katie Walsh is the perfect woman to be the President of NAWBO SJ,” said Fran Davis, current President of NAWBO SJ and owner of The Flavorful Fork. “She is very passionate about women business owners and giving them the tools necessary to be successful. She has a wonderful agenda planned for the upcoming year and is committed to not only maintaining the level of excellence NAWBO SJ is known for, but also taking it up a notch. With Katie at the helm, I know that NAWBO of South Jersey will continue to offer quality content, educational resources, great networking and wonderful support to both the small business and larger corporations in our area.”

The installation of NAWBO SJ’s new President and Board will be September 14, 2016 11:30am-2:00pm at The Madison in Riverside NJ.

Member Spotlight – Aldonna Ambler

Aldonna AmblerAldonna Ambler joined The National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) 35 years ago. A founding member of NAWBO SJ, she was the 5thStatewide President and served as a National Vice President three times. We are thrilled that Aldonna has renewed her membership with us for another year!

Aldonna Ambler’s businesses have been in the top 1% of all woman owned businesses for over 30 years.  She is often included in lists of the top .1% of WBOs worldwide.  She was selected by NAWBO as their “National Woman Business Owner of the Year” in 2000.  She was included in Office Depot’s annual list of theUSA’s “5 Top Women in Business”.

Ambler was also in NJ BIZ’s inaugural group of “50 Top Women in Business” and “25 Women of Influence”.  She is one of the NJ Commerce and Industry Association’s “25 Women of Influence”, was a GARDEN STATE WOMAN magazine “Entrepreneur of the Year”, is one of NEW JERSEY monthly magazine’s “25 Leading Entrepreneurial Women”, is one of PHILADELPHIA BUSINESS JOURNAL’s “Women of Distinction”,was a NAWBO South Jersey “PIONEER” and is in Atlantic County’s “Women’s Hall of Fame.”  Recently, Aldonna was nominated for induction into the NJ Business Hall of Fame.

With all of these accolades, it’s easy to assume that Aldonna is nothing like the ‘rest of us’ or that she’s always had it easy, but that would be a mistake.  Aldonna started her first business with a mere $256 at a time when a spouse’s signature was required on loan papers and interest rates were over 20%.   At the time, her husband was unemployed, making things even more challenging.  She had worked full time, financed part of her 3 master degrees and was still paying off student loans.

Like many women-owned businesses out there, hers are service-focused and the first to feel the impact of an economic downturn.  Aldonna has successfully weathered four recessions!

Aldonna has also been through numerous health challenges, both her husband’s and her own, including a car accident that crushed her neck and caused spinal injuries, numerous surgeries, and cancer.  Her husband battled terminal Multiple Myeloma for 6.5 years and has since passed.

Through all this, Aldonna has forged onward.  She has built and grown a suite of companies to help midsized B2B companies with achieving accelerated growth with sustained profitability®.  NAWBO SJ couldn’t be more honored to have her as a founding member.  Aldonna Ambler is a shining example of what can be achieved by a woman business owner.
